Resh'an is one of six playable characters in Sea of Stars. His moniker is The Archivist, and his alter ego is the Great Eagle. He talks to the player throughout the story from his chair in the Great Archives before they truly meet him in person.

Profile

Appearance

Resh'an wears robes that conceal his disfigured body. They are initially tattered, worn down by time, but he restores them to new condition with magic. His outfit is composed of red, purple, yellow, and white colors. He wears a white turban adorned with red and yellow brooches. He wears the Vial of Time around his neck once the party retrieves it for him.

Personality

Resh'an is fairly reserved, often refraining from offering his thoughts, or not fully explaining the reasons for his actions. As an immortal, and being The Archivist of countless realities, he thinks of himself highly but remains respectful of life, unlike Aephorul. He bears the downsides of his immortality without complaint.

Regular Attack

Resh'an's regular attack is properly timed by colliding both halves of the Vial of Time into the enemy at the same time. Due to this, proper timing varies based on enemy height and distance, which affects when each half of the vial reaches the enemy.

Main Story

Countless millennia before the events of Sea of Stars, Resh'an was a powerful alchemist who set out to create the Elixir of Life, along with another alchemist known as Aephorul. The two succeeded and gained immortality, but at a price, as their bodies decayed and became disfigured, which they hid underneath their robes. The two spent centuries nurturing the world. But eventually, Aephorul became embittered and began cursing the world with his monstrous creations created through forbidden schools of alchemy. He embraced the title of "The Fleshmancer."

Resh'an attempted to intervene, but The Fleshmancer and his creations became increasingly powerful. In desperation to gain ground against The Fleshmancer, Resh'an boldly performed transmutation alchemy on the space-time continuum, breaking reality down into countless timelines and parallel universes. Resh'an became known as "The Archivist," and he set off to catalog the infinite universes in search for a solution to stop The Fleshmancer once and for all.

As The Archivist, he welcomes the player at the beginning of Sea of Stars, in the Great Archives. There, he explains his purpose and hints at his ultimate goal. When the party eventually reaches his room at the top of Antsudlo Tower, they follow his request to retrieve his Vial of Time, and he joins the team to assist them on their adventure. However, he makes it clear that he will be assisting only and will never fight a Dweller.

He assists the party in entering Mesa Island and reaching Clockwork Castle, where they intend to fight the resurrected Dweller of Strife. At the castle, the party fights the Dweller of Strife while Resh'an watches from a distance, refusing to engage per his code. Seraï is not content with Resh'an's decision and takes the initiative to quickly grab Resh'an's Vial of Time and toss it at the Dweller. Chaos ensues as Aephorul immediately arrives on the scene, demanding recompense for the illegal strike dealt on his cherished Dweller. Aephorul gets a free shot at the Solstice Warriors as a result, and he departs to his lair.

Resh'an remains with the party until he discovers his Great Eagle form, which had originally been a birthday gift to him from Aephorul before their falling out, was obtained through vile acts. With the newfound knowledge that his former friend's fall was centuries before he had thought it was, he departs for the Great Archives, leaving behind a robe puppet of himself to continue assisting the Solstice Warriors. Resh'an reappears at the very end of the game, once the fighting at the Fleshmancer's Lair is finished, personally overseeing Aephorul's banishment from Zale and Valere's timeline.
