Saving is a gameplay mechanic in Sea of Stars. The player can save their game progress at any Save Point. There are nine manual save file slots, each of which can be associated with its own auto-save file.
The save file displays one of 45 different save file slot names, based on the player's progress in the story. These save file slot names can also be theoretically grouped into 11 acts;[1] however, act numbers are not displayed on the save file, due to the concern it would have led to preconceived notions, such as questioning the total number of acts and expecting them to be divided into equal slices.[2]
Each of the first 4 acts are bookended by a narration sequence from The Archivist. The Sea of Stars Digital Artbook labels and covers material related to the first 4 acts of the game, while the full artbook labels and covers the first 10 acts of the game and the epilogue.
