"I couldn't find the words... Would you have stuck around if you knew?"
― Seraï
Seraï is one of six playable characters in Sea of Stars. She is an assassin who can create portals through space with her daggers.
Official Website Description[]
Seraï
Portal Assassin
A mysterious assassin and master of poisons with allegiances and origins unknown, Seraï’s agility and precision allow her to tear away at the very fabric of reality with her daggers to teleport around the battlefield.
While Seraï is definitely on our heroes’ side, very little is known about what drives her motivations…Profile[]
Appearance[]
Seraï is a woman with red eyes, and brown spiky pigtails tied with golden rings. Attached to her right pigtail is a hair decoration composed of two threads that end in aqua beads. She wears two gray, earmuff-like circles in place of her ears, and a black sash over her waist. Initially, she wears a green mask that covers her mouth and a pair of sharp-toed white boots. Her cape is green on the outer side and yellow on the inner side, and drapes over her shoulder.
After revealing her cyborg nature, Seraï no longer wears her green mask, revealing her robotic jaw. Parts of her outfit are torn away, revealing that her chest, torso, and neck are completely mechanical. Small patches of flesh remain on her arms and legs, the same color as her face. Her right arm and left leg are no longer covered.
Personality[]
Seraï is straightforward, and generally impatient. She expresses her frustration towards the Ferryman and the Oracle of Tides, who she views as obstacles that waste her time. Her impatience stems from her urgency to fulfill her primary goal of saving her world by bringing back Solstice Warriors who can defeat the Dweller of Dread.
Despite her ulterior motives, she cares deeply about her friends, and she expresses this kindness through actions rather than words; she paralyzes Garl to save his life, forfeits the Coin of Undeath Accord to help her friends despite it being a critical component in her plan for saving her world, assists the party in rescuing the people of the Port Town of Brisk during its destruction, assists in the foundation of Mirth, and assists the party in defeating creatures that are a threat to their world, like bringing the eclipse light to the Dweller of Torment's residence via a gigantic portal.
Seraï is mistrustful of others upon meeting them, and makes her unease known to those such as Resh'an and Yomara, where she acts wary of them. She can be reckless and impulsive, taking Brugaves hostage of her own accord during his and Erlina's betrayal at the Haunted Mansion, and using Resh'an's Vial of Time to injure the Dweller of Strife, defying him despite his moral code.

Main Story[]
Before the events of Sea of Stars, Seraï's world became occupied by The Fleshmancer. To ensure his power would not be opposed with Solstice Warriors, he sunk the moon into the ocean, covered the sky in such thick clouds sunlight would never shine through, and used the The Catalyst to convert the human population into cyborgs, including Seraï. To save her world, she left it to seek the Solstice Warriors of others. Although not elaborated in-game, she spent years crossing the Sea of Stars with great determination, using her daggers to create portals to travel short distances over and over again, until she eventually arrived in Zale and Valere's world.[2]
Some time after arrival, she covered up her mechanical nature and took on the guise of Captain Klee'shaë, daughter of a famous pirate. With this false identity, she gathered together a crew and sought to claim The Vespertine so that she could return home after finding the Solstice Warriors she required. During the events of Sea of Stars, she ensures she crosses paths with Zale and Valere in Brisk as they seek passage to Wraith Island for a cleansing. In exchange for transportation, she arranges for the Solstice Warriors to fetch her a Coin of Undeath Accord, which would allow her to force Stormcaller to obey her and grant her the vessel.
While they did obtain the Coin of Undeath Accord for her, she ends up sacrificing it early to help Zale and Valere reach a Soul Stone to free Garl from the Dweller of Woe's control. She fights alongside the party to obtain that stone, and then helps inside the Haunted Mansion to handle the Dweller's minions. She suddenly appears to try and prevent Brugaves from carrying out treason, but is blasted off him by Erlina. After the Acolytes arrive and use the Dweller of Woe's core to revive another Dweller, she rushes off through a portal to Brisk to help the people survive the ensuing chaos.
To help Seraï assist the refugees of Brisk, Zale, Valere, and Garl assist her in claiming The Vespertine to pay her back for her help in using the coin to save Garl, and helping during the cleansing. Together, they defeat Stormcaller, freeing The Vespertine from its curse to endlessly drift within the Sea of Nightmare. She continues to accompany the Solstice Warriors to help them do what they need to do in their world.
Seraï's impatient nature clashes with the Oracle of Tides, who ultimately does not give her a prophecy, and again during the battle against the Dweller of Strife at the Clockwork Castle, which Resh'an sat out from due to his own undisclosed reasons, at that time. Seraï takes his Vial of Time and throws it at the Dweller herself, resulting in The Fleshmancer's sudden appearance, which in turn results in the eventual death of Garl as payback for the illegal blow.
Helping fulfill Garl's final wish to open the path to the Sea of Stars, which aligns with her own goals, she follows Garl's plan by returning to the Sea of Nightmare to fight a sea monster which was an ally to Stormcaller. Retrieving its enchanted scale, she takes it to Mirth to enhance the rate of crop growth. Garl's plan is a success, and the others are able to cross the Sea of Stars to Seraï's world, where The Fleshmancer has his base of operations.
Upon arrival, she reveals her mechanical nature, and shows the Solstice Warriors what threats they will be facing with the help of her computer companion, Cedric. Together, they manage to reach Sky Base and remove the clouds covering the sun, and raise the moon from the ocean after defeating the Dweller of Dread. At this point, Zale and Valere fully develop their Solar and Lunar powers. With the power of flight, they take the fight to The Fleshmancer in his lair, freeing Seraï's world from his grasp.
Trivia[]
- Seraï and Zale's combo is called "X-Strike," a possible nod to the Double Tech of same name used by Crono and Frog in Chrono Trigger.
- Yasunori Mitsuda's favorite Sea of Stars character is Seraï.[3] He requested to compose her character theme since he felt something special about her.[4] She was the character he identified with most.[5]
