Throes of the Watchmaker,[2] also formatted as Throes of The Watchmaker,[3] is an upcoming free DLC expansion for Sea of Stars, releasing during spring 2025.[1] When it releases, it will be accessible by talking to the pirates on The Vespertine at any time after defeating the Dweller of Dread.[4] Valere and Zale will be playable, as well as the Artificer,[1] who was previously an NPC.

Throes of the Watchmaker was announced as a stretch goal during the Sea of Stars Kickstarter and was referred to as a "clockwork conundrum."[3] In 2024, it was given the tagline "Malevolent spectacle awaits."[5]

Official Description[]

This DLC finds the Solstice Warriors Valere and Zale venturing into the miniature clockwork world of Horloge. In this magical land where denizens are threatened by a cursed carnival, our heroes will need to adapt to unfamiliar rules if their Sun and Moon powers are to manifest.

Story[]

Trailer[]

The DLC seems to begin with the party meeting up with the pirates on The Vespertine. Keenathan appears to be in deep thought, and Yolande comments that the Sky Giants Council informed the pirates that Keenathan's real name is not "Keenathan" after all. Teaks advises that this can be altered with an enchanted pocket watch, hinting that the party will need the Watchmaker's assistance. Seemingly afterwards, the party, the pirates, and the Artificer make a deal with the Watchmaker at the Clockwork Castle.

Seemingly afterwards, Valere, Zale, the pirates (sans Captain Klee'shaë), and the Artificer venture into the miniature world of Horloge, where they appear to be accosted by the presumed henchmen of The Puppeteer, Pif & Pouf. The former of the two jester-like minions threatens to turn the two Solstice Warriors into clones. With the lights dimmed and the stage nearby lit, The Puppeteer presents herself; she greatly resembles the Watchmaker in a ringmaster's uniform. She seems to threaten the protagonists with the prospects of an entertaining but dangerous performance.

Seemingly afterwards, Valere and Zale don new outfits, recolored to resemble circus performers. Rather than fighting as a Lunar Monk and a Solar Blade Dancer, they now fight as an Acrobat and a Juggler respectively. The two seem to reunite with the Artificer, and the trio are tasked with putting an end to the cursed carnival and saving the innocent citizens of Horloge.[6]

Other Info[]

The DLC includes the party helping the Watchmaker.[7] Thierry Boulanger, the main writer and director of the game, hints that the Watchmaker is a private and secretive character, so something related to that may occur in the DLC.[8] It will also flesh her out a little bit.[9]

Like hinted in the ARG, and later confirmed by the official website, the DLC involves a "malevolent spectacle."[10] The DLC is also described as "mysterious and wacky."[11]
