Yolande Fortwal, known simply as Yolande, is a character in Sea of Stars. She is one of the pirates in Captain Klee'shaë's crew.

Profile

Appearance

Yolande is a short, stocky woman with hazel eyes and light blue braided pigtails. She has a red octopus tattoo on each of her biceps. She wears a red bandana with a yellow octopus design on the front of it, a light blue shirt, gray-green pants, green gloves, and a belt over her shoulder and across her torso.

Personality

Yolande is loyal to her crew and Captain Klee'shaë. She is talkative and ends up speaking in place of her captain much of the time. True to her last name, Yolande Fortwal frequently breaks the fourth wall, commenting on various video game tropes. When it is relevant to the conversation, she is prompted to bring up that certain subjects are related to one of her many middle names.

Main Story

Yolande is first met at the Port Town of Brisk, where she ambushes Zale, Valere, and Garl into a conversation about the pirate crew's goal of capturing the legendary ghost pirate ship. She follows up with regaling some of their previous escapades and introduces each member of the crew. The party requests for the pirates' help in sailing to Wraith Island, which Yolande agrees to, under the condition that they accept her deal. At The Humble Boast, the party agrees to the arm-wrestling challenge but loses, requiring them to obtain the Coin of Undeath Accord for the pirates in exchange for passage to Wraith Island. Yolande accompanies the party to the Abandoned Wizard's Lab and blows a hole in the door with an explosive barrel, then leaves with Valtraid.

Once the Coin of Undeath Accord is retrieved, the party and the pirates sail to Wraith Island on the Oakum Skiff through the Shallowmire. Yolande and the other pirates explain how no one who travels to the island is able to ever leave again, due to the Dweller of Woe's cursed voice. Once they arrive at the Wraith Island Docks, Yolande and the other pirates head to The First Stage of Grief and play music on stage for the entertainment of the patrons. She and the other members of the pirate band can be seen at other taverns and inns scattered around the world, where she plays the bodhrán and tambourine.

After the Dweller of Strife awakens and destroys Brisk, Yolande and the other pirates help to evacuate people who are rounded up by Zale and Valere. The party, the pirates, and some of the displaced citizens of Brisk eventually sail to Settlers Island, and Yolande uses an explosive barrel to knock down trees to help build settlements in the town of Mirth. Later after attending Garl's funeral in Mooncradle, the pirates visit the Sky Giants Council at Cloud Kingdom to receive permission to traverse the Sea of Stars. During her turn to report attendance, Yolande states her role and full name to the council, and the council is able to immediately locate her distinct name.

After defeating the Dweller of Dread and speaking to Hortence, the party can speak with Yolande in order to locate Romaya's Secret Passage. If the player participates in Dweller's Fall Arena, Yolande cheers in the upper stands on the left. During an ending vignette, Yolande performs at the inn in Repine, along with the other pirates.

• Thierry Boulanger's favorite non-playable Sea of Stars character is Yolande. His favorite character is Garl.
